CHAPTER EIGHT
Dear Vashti:
So sorry I have not gotten word to you sooner, but it has been tense and one must be very careful at such times. I have discovered through Haman that after your refusal to appear that day (and I certainly still applaud and support that decision), the whole party virtually fell apart. I was told that A. looked like a chicken that got caught in a storm. It seems that Memucan headed up an idea that your action had to be met head on with an authoritative initiative that would save ‘masculine dignity and honor’ from some greatly feared plummet into a flawed unbalanced society. What that says to me is he would be better off joining the ‘cut ones’. Maybe we should suggest that to him? Pardon my flippancy, but he is a pain. It is common knowledge that the great name of Memucan is feared as far off as the l27th province, but not in his own bedroom. Geography is capricious is it not?
It seems that the seven convinced A. to sign a law, which was really nothing more than so much camel droppings, part of which relieved you of being queen and forbade that you ever enter his presence again. This was to establish a precedent throughout all of the provinces. The cold truth is that you have been offered up on the altar of Memucan’s domestic malfunction. I’m trying to find out more information, but the waters are murky and there are dangerous creatures that thrive in such.
Your great uncle is, of course, furious. He is careful to keep the smoke from showing, but I am sure he is not about to leave you in the present situation. Have patience. Bigthan is a man of great influence and will find some means of circumventing this law, or “rearranging circumstances” so as to keep your life from wasting away in the pre-owned concubine storage facility. Meanwhile, I will try to find out what strength we have and how best to use it. Though obviously Haman has good position to exercise influence, he is still chafing from the fact that his counsel against the Greek endeavor was viewed as cowardly. He cannot afford to appear contrary to any other major policies at the moment. There will not be a quick remedy Vashti. But be patient, as our cause is right and our time will come. I will get more to you soon, but precaution is the current priority. Not a word to anyone and destroy this note……..Z![]()
Author’s note: coincidentally this note en route to being destroyed, inadvertently fell through a time warp and was picked up on my laptop due to the drawing power of the intense need we had in order to better understand this highly political and complex conspiratorial web of Shushanic (invented word for the sake of our time together) intrigue.
